Welcome! Here are suggestions on how to use
October’s Bore Da further in the classroom.
October’s themes are Halloween, senses
and times of the day.

Tudalennau 1 8 9 Clawr a Jem

Ask the children if they recognise the girl on the cover. Play one of Jem’s songs to the class and ask if the children like her songs.

Organise the children into groups.  12 envelopes will be needed for every group and the sentences on pages 8 and 9 should be cut up into individual words and put in the envelope. The children must re build every sentence by putting the words in the correct order. Tell them to use clues such as capital letters and punctuation.

Tudalen 3 Celt y Ceiliog

After reading the story the children should decide which fancy dress they would wear to a Halloween fancy dress party, and draw a picture of themselves in the costume.  They should also label the picture.

Tudalen 10 Yr Ysgol

Place 12 chairs in a circle and label them from 1 to 12. Ask one child to sit on chair number 12. Ask another child to listen and sit on the correct seat. Say ‘it’s one o clock’ and the child will sit on chair number one. You should then practise 'it’s half past three,' 'it’s quarter to six' and so on. Then, ask twelve children to sit on the chairs. Divide the rest of the class into two teams. One team will be minutes the other team will be hours. One person from each team will be the runner. The runner from the minute team will run outside the circle and the runner from the hours team will run inside the circle. They run until you shout stop and the children must say what time it is. The first team to say the correct time wins the point. The children sitting in the chairs will be the judges – they can look at the labels to see if the rest were correct.

Tudalen 11 Puzzles and Prizes

Send the puzzles to Bore Da, Swyddfa'r Urdd, Ffordd Llanbadarn, Aberystwyth, SY23 1EY before 31 October 2005. There are loads of prizes to be won and the name of the winners and their schools will appear in Bore Da.

Tudalennau 12 13 Twit tw hw

Divide the class into groups and give each group a set of answers from the ffeil ffeithiau. Read the questions one by one, and write them on the white board. Following each question, every group will send one member to the class balloon with the answer, and place the answer they think is the correct one and the team with the most correct answers wins.

As homework, the children should choose their favourite bird, and prepare a fact file similar to the one in Bore Da.

Tudalennau 14 15 Criw'r Bys Stop

After reading the story, tell the children to colour the pictures on pages 3 and 11.  Then they can use the pictures to create a poster advertising the Criw’r Bys Stop treasure hunt and Halloween party.
