March's Bore Da further in the classroom.

March's themes are Gwersyll yr Urdd, shopping,
the bedroom
and Easter.

Make photocopies of the cartoon and cut each one up into frames.  Give each group a set of frames.  Read the cartoon, embellishing on the story, for example kicking off with "Aunt Celteg has come to Fferm yr Hafod in her holiday. 'Thank you for coming on your holidays from Anglesey, Aunt Celteg,' said Celt…"  The groups should place the frames in their correct order as you read.

After completing the worksheet, give the children the following instructions to colour the pictures.

  1. Colour the horse's tail yellow.
  2. Colour the toothbrush yellow.
  3. Colour the horse brown.
  4. Colour the t shirt blue.
  5. Colour the winter coat green.
  6. Colour the skis light blue.
  7. Colour the ridding hat purple.
  8. Colour the skiing helmet red.

The three Urdd residential centers have a website each.  Tell the children to look at the websites (found on urdd.org) and then write a postcard from their favourite center following the pattern in frame 11.

Read the following questions to the class.  The children should answer the questions orally.

  6. How many leaves are there in the picture?
  7. How many suns are there in the picture?
  8. How many Easter eggs with ribbons are there in the picture?
  1. How many blue Easter eggs are there in the picture?

Send the puzzles to Bore Da, Swyddfa'r Urdd, Ffordd Llanbadarn, Aberystwyth, SY23 1EY before 1 April. There are loads of prizes to be won. The name of the winners will appear in Bore Da.

After completing the word search, the children can use an atlas to find the names of eight other countries, and in pairs they can prepare their own word search.  Than they can swap puzzles and solve each other's word search.

Before reading the story enlarge the four pictures, blanking the words in the speech bubbles.  Write the script on the board.  Discuss what is happening in each picture, and which words the children think fit in each bubble and what happens in the story. Then read the story to see if the children were correct.
