BLE? /
WHERE?
Cynhelir Eisteddfod 2004 ar faes Sioe Amaethyddol Môn ym Mona, o fewn cyrraedd i dref
farchnad brysur Llangefni arwyddion syn tanlinellu mai ffermio yw prif
ddiwydiant yr ynys ffrwythlon hon ers cenedlaethau. Goronwy Owen, un o feirdd clasurol
gorau Cymru, ganodd y cywydd hiraeth enwog am dirion dir ei fam Ynys. Yn Oes y
Tywysogion, cnydau Môn oedd yn
bwydo trigolion Gwynedd. Dyma, yn ôl traddodiad, wreiddyn yr arwyddair enwog: Môn
Mam Cymru. Ond nid amaeth yn unig syn cynnal heddiw prysur yr ynys. Ceir
clwstwr o weithfeydd modern ar draws y sir a llongau poblog porthladd Caergybi yn
croesin ddyddiol i Ddulyn, un o ddinasoedd bywiocaf yr Ewrop gyfoes.
The 2004 Eisteddfod takes place at the Anglesey Agricultural showground
at Mona, close to the busy market town of Llangefni - a location which
underlines the importance of agriculture as the island's main industry
for generations. Goronwy Owen, one of Wales's best classical poets,
composed a famous ode to the 'gentle land' of his island birthplace. In
the golden age of the Welsh Princes, the crops of Anglesey sustained the
population of Gwynedd. According to the tradition, this was the origin
of the island's famous motto: 'Môn Mam Cymru - Môn the Mother of Wales'.
But it isn't just agriculture which supports
the Anglesey of today. There are modern factories across the island and
busy passenger ferries from the harbour at Holyhead crossing daily to
Dublin, one of contemporary Europe's liveliest cities.
Mae olion hen hanes Môn yn dal i hudo pob ymwelydd a bwydor dychymyg. Meini a
chylchoedd yr oesoedd cynnar. Chwedl Branwen ai bedd ar lan afon Alaw. Adlais pell
or Derwyddon cyn dyddiaur Rhufeiniaid. Ceir sôn am lys brenhinoedd yn y
Berffro a sibrwd am frenhinoedd gwahanol ym Mhenmynydd, crud y Tuduriaid. Yn eglwys
Biwmares mae cof am dywysoges o dras brenhinol arall; yma gwelir beddfaen Siwan, gwraig
Llywelyn Fawr, wyres Elinor o Aquitaine a merch y Brenin John.
Yn wastadol uwchben yr eglwys clywir crir gwylanod, sain oesol Ynys Môn.
The remains of Ynys Môn's ancient history
continue to captivate visitors to the island and feed their imagination.
The stone circles of prehistory. The legend of Branwen and her grave on
the banks of the river Alaw. Echoes of the far-off Druids long before
the days of the Romans. There are stories of the courts of kings at
Aberffraw and Penmynydd, cradle of the Tudors. In the church at
Beaumaris, the memory of another princess lives on in the gravestone of
Siwan, wife of Llywelyn the Great, grand-daughter of Eleanor of
Aquitaine and daughter of King John.
And always, above the church, the
cries of seagulls, the timeless sound of Ynys Môn.
